Kaizer Chiefs‘ reserve team epitomised what it means to ‘fight for the badge’ by coming back from a goal down with 10 men to defeat Orlando Pirates 2-1 in a memorable DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) encounter on Sunday.

Amakhosi were rocked after only 14 minutes when Kabelo Nkgwesa was sent off for what the referee deemed to be a deliberate handball inside his own penalty area, and therefore a penalty as well, from which Pirates took the lead.

Showing admirable determination and resilience, Chiefs refused to lie down and drew level in the 26th minute through Steven Mendes. Kamo Malefo poked home the winner in the 48th minute following a goalmouth scramble.

The victory sees fifth-placed Chiefs on 39 points from 24 matches and closing in on the teams above them. They are next in action at home to third-placed Siwelele, who are in their sights, on 11 April.
