It’s back to the Betway Premiership on Tuesday as Kaizer Chiefs put the final touches on preparations for their league clash against Stellenbosch FC, following a three-week pause brought about by FIFA-sanctioned international fixtures.
With just one day to go, coach Fernando Da Cruz believes the break provided the squad with valuable rest amid a demanding schedule, while also allowing time to sharpen key aspects of their game. Chiefs now face a challenging run of five matches in just 17 days this October, spanning the Betway Premiership, CAF Confederation Cup, Carling Knockout, and the highly anticipated Soweto Derby.
“We are happy to be back on the field and look forward to an intense month that includes travel to Zambia and Durban. But it’s important to focus on one game at a time. It’s also a special month for our Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, who celebrates his birthday this week. We must make sure we show up and give him the best birthday present by performing well in the upcoming games, starting with Tuesday’s match against Stellenbosch,” says coach Da Cruz as he previews the game.
He added, “We know it’s not going to be an easy match because they want the three points as much as we do. We have worked hard as a team and planned thoroughly for this match against Stellenbosch.”
Chiefs are fourth on the log with 13 points from seven matches, and the Winelands team are in seventh position with eight points after seven games.
With less than a day before the match, supporters are encouraged to secure their tickets early through the MyTicket app, or in-store at Shoprite and Checkers outlets nationwide. Tickets are priced at just R80.
The clash between the Glamour Boys and the Maroons kicks off at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.
