Standard Bank became a sponsor of Chiefs in mid 2001 and soon after having their logo emblazoned on the right sleeve of the clubs playing jersey, the Amakhosi were adding further silverware to its trophy cabinet.
Speaking at the function on Monday evening Andisa Ntsubane of Standard Bank said to Kaizerchiefs.com, “through our time as a partner with Kaizer Chiefs, our brand was well looked after by Kaizer Chiefs and it was a perfect marriage.
This event is tinged with sadness as we end what has been a decade long relationship built on trust and respect.”
Chiefs were handed a special award by the bank to mark the length of the relationship between the two parties, which was collected by Chiefs MD Bheki Shongwe.
In addition Standard Bank handed out special awards to Amakhosi Director of Marketing Jessica Motaung and Chiefs Brand Manager Dara Carroll for ensuring the smooth running and co-ordination of the relationship from Chiefs side.
For their part to commemorate the sponsorship, Kaizer Chiefs handed Standard Bank a framed Kaizer Chiefs Jersey autographed by – Siphiwe Tshablala, Itumeleng Khune & Reneilwe Letsholyane who were the Chiefs players that featured in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
An emotional Amakhosi brand manager Dara Carroll who has worked with Ntsubane and the Standard Bank team for the last six years said of the bond between the Chiefs and the Bank.
“Working with Standard Bank was a pleasure. The work done by our marketing team and was always complimentary and it ensured that both entities got the best out of the partnership, both commercially and the reputations of our brands were also enhanced and strengthened as a result.”
Standard Bank joined Chiefs as their official Banking Partners in 2001 along with a host of Chiefs long term sponsors including Vodacom and Nike the Amakhosi have enjoyed a successful run on the field of play over this past decade as they won Ten Cup Titles and Two League Championships.
