Amakhosi were drawn to face Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side, Free Agents FC when the fixtures for the last 32 of the 2025 Nedbank Cup were announced on Thursday evening.

Chiefs will host their third-tier opponents on the weekend of 25-27 January in what is sure to be an intriguing encounter, pitting one of the giants of African football against the lower league minnows from Eesterus in Pretoria.

Amakhosi goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen, who attended the ceremonial draw, dismissed any notion that this is an easy tie, and insists they will not underestimate their opponents.

“Obviously, I am excited, happy with the draw. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who we draw, we are always looking to win our next game,” he tells www.kaizrchiefs.com.

It is no secret that Chiefs have fallen victim to giantkilling upsets in the past, and they will be determined not to suffer the same fate against Free Agents.

“We cannot dwell on the past. We will simply focus on the game at hand. We need to go out and play our won game; do what we do best, and ensure we get the result,” he adds.

While Kaizer Chiefs hold the record for winning South Africa’s main Cup competition, the barren run endured by the Glamour Boys in recent years fills Petersen and the rest of the team with extra motivation.

“The opportunities to win trophies decrease as the season progresses so we are even more determined to make the best of this one,” he assures, “Everyone is united in the quest to end the drought and win a trophy for our Chairman, ourselves and our amazing fans and we will give everything to achieve that goal.”
