Amakhosi look to change Cape fortunes

The battle for the 2010 - 2011 PSL crown is one of the tightest races yet in the 15 year history of the league as Chiefs continue the fight to reach the summit of the league table.

Their focus shifts after last week's Soweto derby draw with Orlando Pirates to Cape Town and their next Absa Premiership opponents Vasco Da Gama.

Chiefs will be in action against Vasco this evening at the Athlone Stadium with kick off pencilled in for 19h30.

A win over Vasco will see Chiefs go top of the league standings a point ahead of current league leaders Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town.

The pair will be in action on Wednesday evening when Pirates host Maritzburg United and Ajax travel inland to face BID Vest Wits.

Vasco emerged the victors when the teams met at the FNB Stadium earlier in the season, the Amakhosi with first place in the league up for grabs will have plenty of incentive to want to correct that earlier loss to Vasco.

Recent History

This evening's game is just the second official meeting between Chiefs and Vasco who are currently in their first season in the PSL, the historic first meeting between the sides on November 27 last year produced a five goal thriller edged 3 - 2 by Vasco.

That game also saw Vasco striker Sibusiso Zuma become the first player to score against Chiefs at the old and rennovated FNB Stadiums. Thus far in the 2010 - 2011 season Chiefs have played four games against Cape Town sides and have yet to win having most recently drawn 2-2 with Santos at the Athlone Stadium, so they will be looking for their first win against a team from the Mother City this season.

Current Form

Chiefs have drawn their last two league games against Santos followed by this past Saturday's stalemate against Orlando Pirates, in their last five games the Amakhosi have won three and drawn two. Overall Chiefs have been on a good run over the past three months losing just one of their last twelve games, winning eight of these games while drawing three others. Having gone a long run unbeaten bodes well for Chiefs as they have the momentum and can keep on going, Vasco come into the game having played to a 3-3 draw against Amazulu on Saturday afternoon. Of their last five league outings Vasco have lost four and drawn one.

Missing Out

The Amakhosi are without skipper Jimmy Tau for the game the inspirational right back who set up Kaizer Motaung JR. for Chiefs goal against Orlando Pirates during the weekend derby is suspended for the game and will be hoping to return for this weekend's clash against Free State Stars.

For the rest Chiefs are unhindered and will have their strongest side to choose from for the game.
