Amakhosi off to Orkney for a friendly

Whilst Kaizer Chiefs' official premiership game against Moroka Swallows scheduled for this weekend in Mafikeng, has been postponed due to three Amakhosi players in the national squad for the all time important international friendly against Madagascar at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, March 29, Chiefs will be traveling to the Vaal Reefs (Orkney) in the North West to face the Vodacom League sensations of the province, RnB54 FC in what is expected to be a thrilling friendly.

Speaking from the club's headquarters in Naturena team spokesman, Putco Mafani said the trip is in line with their objectives of taking any chance available to move games to the people.

"During our visit to the lovely city of Klerksdorp last week we felt it would be good to bring a game to the supporters of the region, who have over the years been very loyal to the team," said Mafani.

"The opportunity has allowed our branches, namely Klerksdorp and the newly formed Orka branch to be involved in the preparations, through organising curtain raisers for this game.

"When Bobsteak (Bobby Motaung) and myself met the executive mayor of Klerksdorp it was obvious there was a need to work together for the development of the game and supporters' activities in the area", he added.

Apart from the involvement of the supporters branches, another important element in the trip is the 'practice' the game will offer those players, who have been inactive for some time.

It should also mark the return of midfield sensation Jabu Pule as the game will mark the end of his three months suspension from playing for the team.

Speaking before the departure of the team for Klerksdorp Pule said: "I have been training very hard to regain my fitness. Obviously it is never going to be easy if one takes into consideration my fellow teammates' fitness levels.

"I just need a couple of games and I believe, if I impress the coaches, I will return to the top of my game once more. I thank all those who have been supportive and the coaches Doc and Ace for pushing me hard at training so I could make this come back.

"I look forward to re-writing the life of Jabu Pule on the field of play, I seriously miss the game with all my heart, I am hungry now to play," said Pule.

Some of the players expected to make an appearance are players from the club's reserve side that traveled with Pule to Vryburg last Friday.

Gates for this game open at 16h00 and admission is R10 for adults and R5 for children. Tickets will be sold at the stadium.

Kick off is 19h00 and a full house is expected as thousands of the mighty Amakhosi local fans will be witnessing the team's display for the first time since the Rothmans Cup Last 16 second leg defeat at the hands of Hellenic in 1999.

Ticket enquiries and all security related matters should be referred to Putco Mafani (PRO) and Thami Myaluza (Operations Manager) on 082 991 0977 and 082 991 0992 respectively.
