After a long time a Soweto derby lived up to the pre match hype with both teams playing attracting and exciting football, with neither holding back in a game of 90 pulsating minutes of action that saw the ball moving at lightining speed from end to end.

Chiefs for their part had less pressure and played with the tenacity of under dogs as they attacked from the onset and were duly rewarded when David Obua struck inside the first five minutes to give Chiefs the lead.

Thabo Mooki took what looked like a harmless corner kick from the right side which was met by David Obua who belted the ball past a helpless Thabang Stemmer in the Pirates goal.

Chiefs thereafter squandered a host of opportunities as Louis Agyemang and Thabo Mooki both had good efforts that went inches wide of goal. Chiefs once again showed their strength in defence as they held off the usually dangerous Lebo Mbele with ease.

Jimmy Tau the former Orlando Pirates captain was pillar strength for the Amakhosi and made life for his former teammates very hard as put in a sterling display to pick up the man of the match award.

When Pirates did get past the last line of defense they found an inspired Emile Baron in goal who was again on hand to make a number of big saves which helped Chiefs keep the upper hand over the Buccaneers.

With time running down Gert Schalkwyk ran onto a through pass form Thabo Mooki to gently lob the ball past Stemmer and watched as it rolled in to make certain of Chiefs win.

As the result became as crystal as the Amakhosi faithful in full cry a handful of Pirates supporters held up the end of the game with unruly behavior, but could still not dampen the Amakhosi’s spirits.

Chiefs end the day by bringing to a close a run of six games with out a win in emphatic style and remain the only unbeaten team in the PSL this season, with their first PSL victory over Pirates in two seasons.
