Stuart Baxter hailed the attitude of the squad following an emphatic Kaizer Chiefs victory over a resilient Free State Stars on Saturday evening.

The Glamour Boys were forced to dig deep after Free State Stars took a lead in the first half through a wonder strike from Fikru Teffera. The hosts pulled a goal back through Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s header before Bernard Parker won the game with a well taken free kick.

Baxter had made one change in the team that drew with Mamelodi Sundowns midweek replacing Josta Dladla with Siyabonga Nkosi in the heart of the midfield.

“The attitude of the players in this team is amazing and it is one of the reasons we have done so well.

“We had Josta (Dladla) in the midfield against Sundowns and on Saturday evening he was on the stands without a grumble. We left Major (Lehlonolo Majoro), who played in the Africa Cup of Nations, out and there was no grumble.

“We threw in ‘Sthe’ (Sthembiso Ngcobo) who has not had much game time this season and he showed massive appetite. The attitude of the players was great. We can of course play better and credit to Free State Stars and Steve (Kompela) for making life a bit difficult. I am pleased with the result."

The result saw the Glamour Boys reoccupying the top spot in the Absa Premiership table; “We are taking it one game at a time. It’s not about who is on top of the Absa Premiership now. What matters is who will be on top of the Premiership come the end of the season. We are pleased as long as we are in striking distance."

Siyabonga Nkosi, Lucky Baloyi and Sthembiso Ngcobo all got a run against Free State Stars; “Players have not complained and they have kept their heads up.

"I always try to have a competitive team out there - we always try to keep the team fresh. We might not always succeed all the time but it is once again down to the player’s attitude; like I said it has been impressive."
