Stuart Baxter maintained that Kaizer Chiefs will improve as the season progresses after watching his side putting a good fight to return home with a valuable point against a gallant Free State Stars on Saturday, 1 September 2012.
The Glamour Boys controlled proceedings in the first half creating numerous chances but failed to capitalise. The conditions of the pitch at Charles Mopeli combined with windy conditions also did not help Amakhosi’s cause.
“We played under extremely difficult conditions, the pitch and at times there were gale force winds,” Baxter told kaizerchiefs.com on Monday afternoon.
“I think both teams were brave but we had a better first half creating quite number of chances. I think with better concentration in the box we would have scored one or two goals.
“It is traditionally difficult to come and play in Qwaqwa, Free State and we played against a much organised team in Free State Stars. I would not falter the players as they once again played their hearts out giving a solid performance away.
“We were better on transition today and also well organised at the back. I do believe though that we can still improve as season progresses and play even better.
This week there are no games owing to Fifa calendar and the Amakhosi will play their next game against Black Leopards on Saturday, 15 September 2012 at Soccer City (Kick off is at 20:15). Five players from Baxter’s team have been called up to do duty for the national team.
“It is good to have a large contingent in the national team and I congratulate the players that have been called up.
“It can also be a challenge when a player comes back tired or not as sharp as you would want them to be. We might have to rotate the squad a little bit for our next game depending on what conditions the players arrive in,” continued Baxter.
“We will not have any games during the Fifa week but continue to work on improving different aspects of our game.
The Glamour Boys who reached 900 point mark following a draw against Free State Stars will be hoping to return back to their winning ways when they host Black Leopards in 11 days.
