Head Coach, Stuart Baxter was pleased with the team performance following a 4-1 drubbing of Bloemfontein Celtic in the final of Gauteng Football Cup held in Pretoria’s Loftus Versfeld on Sunday, 21 July 2013.
The Glamour Boys who retained the cup they won in 2012 were ruthless and Bloemfontein Celtic had no answers when the Glamour Boys asked for more questions.
“I was impressed with the attitude and mentality of the players. Celtic is always a difficult side to play against and once again they gave us a lot of problems.
I was pleased with a lot of things today, but I feel we can still improve technically, tactically - including our decision making. The players are working on this all the time in training. We want to be an offensive side and I think we are on the right track.
The fitness of the players is looking reasonable. We lack a bit of sharpness, but we will get there.
It is good to have Morgan (Gould) back. A fit Morgan is more like a new signing. He is still 75% fit and we will be monitoring his progress.”
Baxter admitted that they plan to refresh the squad ahead of the new season; “We have to respect the players who helped us win the double last season.
I do remind the players every day at training or during team meetings to continue being humble because it was that humbleness that led to a positive start in the league last season. We are hoping to make one or two additions in the squad before the start of the season,” added Baxter.
The Glamour Boys will have to switch their focus to the Carling Black Label Cup this weekend, on 27 July 2013, when they meet with defending champions, Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium (15:30).
