Baxter rues the missed chances

Stuart Baxter acknowledged his disappointment at his side’ inability to convert the chances to goals as Chiefs were held to a goalless draw by Bloemfontein Celtic in a match played in front of a near capacity crowd at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday evening.

Chiefs dominated play and created lot of chances seemingly doing everything right except putting the ball at the back of the net.

Baxter felt that his side could have been more clinical in front of goals as he spoke to kaizerchiefs.com on Sunday; “We created quite a number of chances and I was disappointed that we did not get that all important goal to win the match. We again picked up lot of positives from this game despite the draw. The point we got is important as it might come handy at the end of the season.

“The players once again gave their all to win the game. We knew that Celtic will not be an easy side to play against having registered a moral boosting win ahead of our game. They were aggressive today, not in a negative way. They came here to compete and that was evident on their approach of the game.

“I felt that on some instances we allowed them to attack us on transition. I also felt that we needed to make ways to get behind their defence something that we did not do well. We will continue working hard and make sure we rectify our areas of concern in training.

“We go to every game with a mentality to win and it was not different this evening. The game was played in front of a passionate support from the fans that were behind the team something that always pushes the players to give that little extra.

The teams will be on recess this coming weekend owing to Fifa break and eight players from Chiefs will be away doing the national duty; “The only thing I worry about is when players return with injuries but we should be pleased to have players representing the national team. We will continue with our work at the Village this week,”

The Phefeni Glamour Boys remain on top of the Absa Premiership with 17 points after seven games five points adrift of Orlando Pirates who are on second position.
