Kaizer Chiefs Head Coach, Stuart Baxter welcomed the draw against Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Knockout on a date to be confirmed by the Cup Committee.

The Briton who was accompanied by Corporate Communication & Public Relations Manager, Vina Maphosa and Brand Manager, Dara Carroll said Bidvest Wits will be tougher than the opponent they met in the league couple of weeks ago.

“It is a tougher draw if you consider that we are coming up against a side that is brimming with good players and they are on an up in the league where they have been picking up points,” said Baxter speaking to kaizerchiefs.com.

“I am hoping that we will take our league form to the Telkom Knockout. The game though will be totally different to the game we played a couple of weeks ago and we will have to be at our best to proceed to the next round.

Chiefs will have to prepare without eight players who have been called up to the national duty; “in the absence of players who have been called up we have a few days to prepare for the encounter but we have to stop complaining and get on with the business.

We want to do well in each and every game and we will not approach Telkom Knockout differently to any game this season,” added Baxter.

This season will see a brand new trophy that the 16 competing sides will fight over, as well as exciting prizes for the supporters. Kaizer Chiefs having won the tournament three times in five years – they have kept the original Telkom trophy launched in 2006 while the trophy used last year will be kept ‘at the PSL office as a memory’ according to Telkom’s Manelisa Mavuso.

The competition first launched back in 1982 has seen the Glamour Boys winning it in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2010, and 2010*becoming the most successful team in the history of the competition.

*The Telkom Knockout was played twice in 2010 calendar year to accommodate Bafana Bafana preparations for the Fifa World Cup.
