Broken bones but no goals at Ellis Park

Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars played to a dull 0-0 draw in a PSL game played at Ellis Park Stadium on Tuesday night.

Chiefs, under threat of ending the league in their worst ever position in 32 years, failed to impress as they made little headway against Stars who had very little to offer.

Chiefs worst ever League finish came in 1985 when they finished ninth and should Chiefs fail to gain anything out of their final game against Orlando Pirates this weekend they may well repeat 1985's result or even worse.

For the time being however the point gained from the Ama-Tuesday night clash sees them move into eighth spot on 48 points.

For their part the one point gained by Stars in their final game of the season sees them end on 44 points, comfortably in mid-table.

The game started with a minute's silence in honour of former Minister of Sport Steve Tshwete who passed away on Saturday. The sombre mood at the start of the game seemed to seep into the on-field action and in truth it

was a game with little to report on.

Aside from two seemingly serious injuries to the Chiefs pair of Shaun Permall and Thabo Mooki only a late penalty claim gave the crowd anything to shout about.

The first Chiefs player to leave the field was Shaun Permall who departed on a stretcher with his neck in a brace following a heavy collision. While the injury looked serious word from the Chiefs camp was that the striker was alright and was simply suffering from concussion.

Permall was followed off the field by Mooki who departed in a wheelchair with his knee horribly swollen shortly after the start of the second half.

Speaking after the game a furious Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugal told Supersport that Mooki had been taken to hospital with a broken leg.

Jabu Pule was undoubtedly the best player on show and although he ran hard and probed tirelessly from midfield he was never able to lift the game beyond the level of mediocrity.

Despite the loss of two key players Chiefs finished the stronger of the two sides and Kelvin Mushangazhike was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when he was brought down in the area after a strong run.

It wasn't to be however as the referee waved play on and matters went on to finish deadlocked at 0-0.
