The Amakhosi recorded their fourth straight win in the Absa Premiership when they beat TUKS 1-0 on Reconciliation Day. The win was not only a matter of catching up with the log leaders but it was a significant day for Kaizer Chiefs Development programme.

The recently promoted from Chiefs Development, attacking midfielder and 22 year old Philani Pius Cele made his debut during the victory night for the Amakhosi. The Kwamashuborn pintsized dynamite came in as a substitute in the 78thminute replacing midfield maestro, Siphiwe ‘Shabba’ Tshabalala.

The shy Cele was modest with his achievement when contacted by kaizerchiefs.com,

‘I am just happy that we gained the maximum points tonight. I am looking forward to the next game especially as we are showing signs of determination to defend our Championship.We have quality in the team and I think we will do well going forward,” commented Cele on the Team effort.

“I thank Coach Stuart Baxter for giving me the chance. Now, it is only for me to work hard and learn from my teammates and the rest will follow. I spoke to my mom (Khanyisile Cele) after the game and she was so pleased and proud to see me achieving my first game in official league game. My friends too, Sphamandla and Ninja shared the moment with me after the match,” said Cele whose favourite movie is Man on Fire.

“I knew that if I get my first touch correct everything will fall in place. I made sure that I keep it simple, relax and play my normal game according to the advice I got from the Coaches. I could not sleep after the game as I was reminiscing on the game and looking at areas that need some polishing. My work rate, that is attacking and defending with the unit as well as shooting will be receiving attention from now onward,”commented Cele.

“The experience of the First Team has been invaluable. I had the privilege to share the room with the Captain (Itumeleng Khune) at camp. He is a funny man and it is very encouraging being around him. From the bench, Morgan Gould encouraged me to go on and do my best. In the field Pa Gaxa reminded me to take the debut serious and everything will be all right,” commented Cele, a Hip Hop music follower.

Cele should be happy and looking forward to the Amakhosi trip to Durban in the next few days;
