Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung joined the press conference this morning of Orlando Pirates at the Rand Stadium. The media briefing was held following the death of Buccaneers goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The Amakhosi Chairman said that he had spoken with Pirates boss Irvin Khoza – they were sitting side by side each other at the press conference - and they had agreed to postpone the Soweto Derby, which was supposed to be held on Saturday, 1 November.

Others attending the media briefing were, for example, PSL chief executive Brand de Villiers, who confirmed the match’s postponement, SAFA chief executive Dennis Mumble and Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba.

The Chiefs Chairman also spoke briefly about Senzo Meyiwa: “His death is a national tragedy. As a parent I know what it is when a child dies and also as a Club owner. It saddens me, as we are talking here about somebody whose career was blossoming. His family has lost, Orlando Pirates has lost and the entire soccer fraternity has lost… On behalf also of other clubs who are not here, I would like to express condolences. Senzo was a national asset. He was a true soldier. Senzo inspired greatness.”
