Kaizer Chiefs closed the gap between them and log leaders Orlando Pirates when they beat Wits University 1-0 in a Castle Premiership game played at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Tuesday.

There was no score at half-time.

Both teams started the game at a fast pace, but it was Chiefs who threatened the Wits goal on more occasions as the "Clever Boys" reverted to a more defensive mode.

Chiefs' John "Shoes" Moshoeu should have put his side ahead five minutes before the break after receiving a neat pass from striker David Radebe, but Moshoeu stuck the ball into the side net.

Chiefs coach Ted Dimutri made tactical changes in the second half and it paid dividends, albeit in the dying minutes of the game, when Chiefs midfielder Gerald Sibeko was brought down in the box by Wits goalkeeper Wayne Roberts.

Chiefs top goal scorer Collins Mbesuma stepped up and made no mistake.

The Mighty Amakhosi are now just three points adrift of Pirates and also have a game in hand.
