There are just a handful of occasions in a year when the more than fifty administrative staff at Kaizer Chiefs along with the playing and technical staff gets the opportunity to socialize. Wednesday afternoon provided them with one of these rare opportunities.

The Globe theatre with a sumptuous lunch laid on by the Back Of The Moon restaurant at the Gold Reef City complex in Johannesburg was the site for the Kaizer Chiefs 2006 end of the year luncheon. As the entire staff compliment at the Kaizer Chiefs Village left work early and were joined at lunch- time by the players once they had completed training on Wednesday morning.

As has become a tradition over the last few years the club hosts all its staff members at a luncheon as the end of the working year nears, with most staff members going on the summer vacations with in the next week.

Club marketing manager Jessica Motaung who in her address to the staff and players said; “2006 has been an eventful year for all of us, let us return in the New Year and continue fullfilling our dreams and ambitions."

The Chiefs marketing manager also thanked her father Club Managing Director Kaizer Motaung, for his outstanding leadership abilities, which has been a motivating factor behind the clubs on and off field successes.

In his address the Chiefs supremo in reference to Jessica’s comments added “at this time of the year when a time for giving presents dawns upon us, it is nice to see fathers have a lot of praise heaped upon them by their children”. A comment which was met by laughter and applause from the crowd. The Chiefs MD continued further by adding “in the spirit of giving and at this time of the year when every one goes on holiday we need to be mindful of those who are less fortunate than us, and should find it in our hearts to assist those less fortunate than we are. We also need to do a self introspection on the year that is about to finish and plan towards achieving more in the New Year”.

What was an entertaining and eventful afternoon was made all the more colourful with a number of Chiefs staff members taking to the stage, in order to entertain their colleagues.

As they took centre stage with their own home brewed acts as well as their personal renditions of a number of chart topping songs from yesteryear, prior to The Amakhosi players and staff invading the stage entertainment was provided by the Kimberly based quartet known as simply four.

During their onstage performance simply four invited their fellow Kimberly resident Chiefs defender Jimmy Tau, up on stage as he joined them in unison with as they played out with one of their more popular tracks.
