On 18 July, South Africans will once again celebrate Mandela Day. The Amakhosi will spend 67 minutes off their pre-season camp doing it for Madiba in PE.
Kaizer Chiefs in its entirety will take time paying tribute to the great man himself. The Glamour Boys are based in PE as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2014/15 PSL season.
Mandela Day was created to celebrate Tata Madiba, a man who gave so much of his time for his fellow human beings; first as a struggle leader, then as a prisoner and later as a president and humanitarian leader. With this in mind, the event aims “to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better” by calling on all South Africans and global citizens at large to donate 67 minutes of their time to a good cause. The day is as much about giving back as it is about uniting people through the power of collective action.
Marketing Director Jessica Motaung said, "This years celebration is extra special as its the first year we will mark Mandela Day following Madibas passing in 2013. With our main sponsor, Vodacom we will be engaging in food packing as part of the Vodacom National Food Security 2014 Project. The project is aimed to promote nutrition. The food parcels will include nutrition rich food vital for the health of learners. Part of the project includes the promotion of hygiene and nutrition by promoting hand washing before eating, thats why were including soap in parcels and key messages on hand washing. We will be joining the Vodacom staff to hand out food parcels at selected schools."
"The day of action is near. As Kaizer Chiefs we are excited to join hands with our main sponsor Vodacom in the Food Security 2014 Project. The day itself ties well with our Corporate Social Investment and the project itself is key in terms of sustainability of human kind. We are looking forward to pause from the training ground and the offices to make a contribution to the day. We would like to thank our main sponsor Vodacom once more for the initiative which goes to show that we are conscious of the needs of the societies that we serve." said Motaung.
