The 2013 Nedbank Cup round of 16 draw took place on Monday, 28 February at The Venue, Melrose Arch.
Kaizer Chiefs were pulled out of the bowl first to earn a home date against the National First Division outfit Polokwane City. The game will be played on the 16th of March at the FNB Stadium.
Amakhosi beat fellow PSL peers Bidvest Wits by 3-0, while Polokwane City walloped Kwazulu-Natal SAFA Second Division side Island FC 7-2 to advance to the Last 16. Polokwane City recorded the most number of goals in the first round.
Speaking to Media after the draw for the R7 million winners prize money, Kaizer Chiefs Captain Itumeleng Khune was cautiously optimistic to advance to the quarterfinals; “I watched Polokwane City when they won 7-2, they looked very sharp and dangerous on transitions. For Chiefs there is no easy game and we play each game as it comes without worrying about the past results. We respect each team that we play against.”
Focusing on the league and Cup double, Khune was very resolute in dismissing that talk; “We are focused on the next game, which in this case is our game against Bidvest Wits in the ABSA Premiership league encounter on the 2nd of March at the FNB Stadium.”
The kick-off time and ticket sales information for this Nedbank Cup encounter will be communicated in due course.
