The main question is whether Chiefs have what it takes to unhinge the miserly Wits defence that has conceded only one goal in 13 league and cup matches.
In fact, Chiefs have been the only club to have scored against Wits this season, and that was in the first match of the season, one they lost 2-1 to the Students.
It is amazing that Wits have been able to maintain such a fantastic record for so long. They may not have any big names in their squad, but they have a good balance and a squad of players that fight for 90 minutes. In goalkeeper Wayne Roberts they have one of the most calm and sensible goalkeepers in the league.
While a good defence has done a lot to protect Roberts, the goalkeeper himself has made some vital stops at crucial stages of the match to keep clean sheets.
Wits have not lost in their last 10 matches, but despite this good record, they go into the match as underdogs.
Log leaders Chiefs are the form team at the moment, and after their demolition job of Ajax Cape Town in the quarterfinals of the competition, Chiefs are the favourites to lift the trophy.
Coach Ted Dumitru has expressed his happiness that he will likely have his full squad available for the clash, and that he is happy to be playing Wits to put paid to all this talk of the Students being his “hoodoo” team.
Chiefs will also welcome back ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu, the midfielder having been on duty for the national squad in their friendly match against Egypt. Moshoeu is likely to bring stability to the midfield, and provide support to another Bafana Bafana star, Patrick Mayo.
By all accounts, this promises to be the final ahead of the final, and a really exciting tussle is expected between the two sides. And come Saturday evening, a lot of questions are expected to have been answered.
