Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic drew 0-0 exciting Absa Premiership clash at Free State Stadium, a game which really deserved several goals given the amount of chances wasted.

Coach Stuart Baxter made it clear before kick-off that he was resting Bernard Parker by not starting him in this Absa Premiership game because of the busy schedule this week, which also includes a cup semifinal early next week.

For Celtic, Clinton Larsen made some changes from the side that lost 2-0 to AmaTuks on the weekend, giving former Bidvest Wits striker Letsie Koapeng a start.

Morgan Gould had the first scoring chance of the game in the 9th minute when he found himself free on a Siphiwe Tshabalala corner kick, but could not direct his header on target.

Three minutes later, Chiefs fashioned another chance from a corner kick when Willard Katsande got loose at the far post and snapped a volleyed attempt at goal but his shot flew over the bar.

It took until the 26th minute for Celtic’s first chance on goal and it was nothing more than a snap shot by Joel Mogorosi from distance. The Botswana international’s attempt swerved away from Itumeleng Khune and past the upright.

In the 35th minute Musona turn and tried to hit a volley at goal, but his first-time attempt flew just over the bar. Still, it was a very good attempt by him.

With four minutes to go until the break, Reneilwe Letsholonyane started a great passage of combination play, which resulted in a cross from the left flank and Letsholonyane was on the end of it, but he could not keep his header down and on target.

In the dying moments of the first half, Vuyani Ntanga tested Khune with a stinging long range shot, which Khune could only parry into play, and fortunately for him there was no Celtic player ready to score from the rebound.

In the opening stages of the second half, Musona did well to beat Daniels in the area and get to the ball in space, but he blasted a shot across goal without troubling Tignyemb, again showing a lack of composure.

In the 70th minute Musona had yet another chance at goal, but his first-time left-footed volley was all power and no direction.

A few minutes later, Mogorosi got free at the far post during a corner kick, but while he did well to jump and meet the ball with his head, he could not keep it on target.

With two minutes to go, Letsholonyane connects with a header in a good position but does not hit the target, which sums up the night for both sides.

Chiefs: Khune, Gaxa, Masilela, Mashamaite, Gould, Katsande, Letsholonyane, Tshabalala, Lebese (Parker 70’), Musona, Nkhatha (Majoro 84’)
