Chiefs victory in the Limpopo Challenge against Dynamos marked the end of an era for the Limpopo team as it was the final occasion for the foreseeable future that, the Dynamites would be playing a match as PSL while based in Polokwane. As club boss Pat Mathabela has sold Dynamos to a Kwa-Zulu Natal business man, as Dynamos begin to contemplate life in the Mvela Golden League as they will trade places with Zulu Royals, they had a tournament to still play in.

It seems as though the off the field shenanigans had affected the club as The Amakhosi ran out comfortable winners over the Dynamites to pick up their first trophy of the new season, for Chiefs it was once again the legs of David who saw them through. In their first game of the day Chiefs triumphed over Black Leopards thanks to a long range effort by David Obua from a free kick.

In the final it was another David this time in the form of David Mathebula who like an opera conductor was at the epicentre of stringing together a number of passes. Which culminated in a neat one two with Gerald Sibeko who himself had put in a great effort in the match overall, Sibeko’s final pass saw Mathebula pick up a through pass and with great effort to stop the shot by the Dynamos keeper Mathebula watched his ball roll over the line.

Chiefs dominance in the second half continued but it was not all plain sailing as Dynamos brought out the best in Fernandez early on as substitute Mpho Maleka, made the Chiefs captain work hard to make what was an awkward looking shot. Chiefs could have extended their lead on 53 min when Dynamos defender Mabasa headed a ball into Agyemang’s path. The Chiefs striker was unlucky not to find the target as he shot went agonizingly close, five minutes after that Siyabonga Nkosi than went close with a shot from distance that also narrowly missed the target.

Agyemang was again the unfortunate victim as he saw his shot from distance well stopped by Sanudi who got down in time to the ball which was travelling at a rate of knots across the surface.

As the lights went out at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening the feelings amongst the Chiefs supporters in the stadium and one echoed by The team is that the initial signs are looking good for Chiefs. With tougher opposition to come in the days leading up to the resumption of the PSL Season sometime in August Chiefs should be able to work out the glitches and fine tune themselves into pre season title challengers.
