The one football match that brings the country to a halt, the big Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is here! This is the first meeting of the season between the two rivals under the Betway Priemership banner and each team will want to make history by winning the first match under the new new league sponsors.
It is the the 107th league meeting since 1970 when the two Soweto team locked horns 55 years ago. Chiefs, who are the away team in today’s fixture, hold the sway when it comes to the number of matches won, and will want to add to the 45 victories when compared to Pirates’ 25, with 36 of those matches draws.
Amakhosi will welcome coach Nasreddine Nabi back after he served a two-match ban. This will be his first Soweto Derby, while his counterpart at Pirates will be on the bench for the sixth time in the Derby.
Another interesting thing is that two of the three new signings, Glody Lilepo and Thabo Cele are in the 20-man match squad.
After making six changes last weekend in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 match against Free Agents, Amakhosi will once again make six changes, as they welcome back some of the players who were on rested last weekend.
In are Njabulo Blom, Rushwin Dortley, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Samkelo Zwane, Mduduzi Shabalala and Ranga Chivaviro. They replace Happy Mashiane, Reeve Frosler, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Wandile Duba, Tebogo Potsane and Mfundo Vilakazi.
Amakkhosi will have a 4-5-1 formation for this match.
Bruce Bvuma keeps his post as the goalkeeper.
On the left of defence is Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Inacio Miguel and Dortley are at centre-back, and Blom is at right back.
Mthethwa is back as the holding midfielder, working with Zwane. They have Mmodi - who scored a brace last weekend - on the left-wing. George Matlou is behind the strikcer and Shabalala is on the right wing.
Chiefs will attack with Chivaviro.
