“It is pleasing to see such a happy mood,” reflects goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune after appearing at the Kaizer Chiefs Vodacom Roadshow at Durban’s Workshop. “When you see this joy, you realise how much Chiefs mean to our supporters.”

Khune was flanked by some of his teammates, as a build-up to Wednesday’s big clash in the Telkom Knockout Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium (kick-off is at 18:00).

The supporters cheered loudly at the Roadshow when Chiefs’ quartet of Khune, Sibongiseni Ngcobo, Philani Cele and Levy Mokgothu arrived.

Cele comes from KwaMashu, which is about 20 minutes’ drive from Durban. “It's great to be home and interact with the supporters,” he comments, pausing before reflecting further: “I feel honoured. It shows that we play for a big team in the country. Wherever we go, people love us and that motivates us to play well. I think everyone is ready for Wednesday’s cup final. We will give it our best."

The supporters were given an opportunity to win prizes and take pictures with their beloved Amakhosi stars. Ngcobo, also a homeboy, originates from KwaMakhutha: “I am happy to give out tickets to the lucky fans.”

The Telkom Knockout final is a sold out affair, so winning tickets at the Roadshow was something special.

Ngcobo continues: “We are highly motivated. I have a feeling that we will win the match.”

Some supporters walked away with an Amakhosi jersey, signed by the players thanks to Chiefs as well as cell phone giant Vodacom.

Mokgothu also joined in to give his feedback: “It is really motivating for a player to engage with the supporters. It is a huge privilege to be part of the Chiefs family.”

“I wish everyone a merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” the left-back concluded.
