Kaizer Chiefs Reserves side lost 2-1 against rivals, Orlando Pirates in a thrilling encounter played in Eldorado Park on Monday afternoon.

The reserve side league otherwise known as Gauteng Monday League returned following a break with the two rivals from Soweto meeting just after Saturday’s titanic ABSA Premiership clash which took place at a packed FNB Stadium where they played to a 1 all draw.

The Amakhosi Reserves team put a spirited performance and were unfortunate to lose the game in the closing stages. The likes of Philani Cele did not look overwhelmed coming up against bigger and more experience opponents and Coach Ace Khuse must be pleased with the overall performance.

Orlando Pirates had fielded a competitive team with the likes of Okwonkwo, Phungwayo, Chinyama, Masalesa, Makola, and Mbuyane while the Glamour Boys had the likes Kgotso Moleko who was the captain of the side; Lucky Baloyi and Mandla Masango were the only regulars in the first team.

Pirates threatened first through captain Thulasizwe Mbuyane but defender Shaun Malinga cleared from the line after Mbuyane had rounded goalkeeper Sibusiso Mabaso.

Kaizer Chiefs took the lead through Lucky Baloyi’s well taken penalty after Pirates defender was adjudged by the referee to have fouled striker Andile ‘Eto’o’ Nqabeni.

Halftime score was 1-0 to Chiefs.

Coach, Ace Khuse substituted Mandla ‘Bullet’ Masango and Lucky ‘Sherriff’ Baloyi with Rueben ‘Steja’ Letsholonyane and Promise Thwala getting a run.

The hosts took their foot off the pedal as the visitors, Orlando Pirates searched for the equaliser with substitute Mark Mayambela leading the charge.

The equaliser did come in the 85th minute albeit under controversial circumstances when defender, Zitha Macheke was adjudged to have fouled Makola and substitute Bongani Ndulula made no mistake from the spot.

Three minutes later Makola grabbed a winner for Orlando Pirates with a well taken shot just outside the 18-area box as the match ended 2-1 to the visitors.
