Kaizer Chiefs’ Reserves side lost 4-0 to Bidvest Wits in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) clash at Durban’s King Zwelithini Stadium.
It was Amakhosi’s first game of the 2016/2017 reserve league season.
The game represented an opportunity for the newly signed Keagan Buchanan to show his worth. It was his first official match since having fully recovered from his injury problems.
Two other new signings, striker Ryan Moon and the young goalkeeper Brylon Petersen were also handed a chance to shine, while defender Siyanda Xulu got a run as well.
Chiefs started the game well, but got an early set-back when Ntiya-Ntiya Siphosakhe was adjusted by the referee to have brought down a Wits player inside his own box. The penalty was easily converted, 0-1.
Thereafter, Amakhosi got several fine opportunities to level the score. However, it was instead Wits that extended their lead in the 42nd minute.
Just before that, Buchanan was replaced by the young exciting midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
The second half started like the first, with Amakhosi conceding a third goal already in the 52nd minute.
This was the moment Chiefs went all out trying to get a goal, but, again, it was Wits that scored from a counter-attack, 0-4.
It was obviously not the start Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane had been looking for at the start of the match.
Chiefs’ line-up: Petersen; Khopotse, Sibongiseni Ngcobo, Xulu, Siphosakhe; Shopane (Tshidiso), Meyiwa, Buchanan (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo 40’), Khumalo (Sithole 71’); Buchanan, Moon
