Chiefs to meet Swallows in Gauteng Challenge

Kaizer Chiefs have been drawn to meet Soweto rivals, Moroka Swallows in the inaugural Gauteng Sports Challenge to take place on Saturday, 21 July 2012 at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.



The One-day soccer tournament, featuring Kaizer Chiefs, Moroka Swallows, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United, is a concept of the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will kick off this year with a limited number of sporting codes including soccer and road running.



The 1st semifinal between SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits will take place at 10:00 and the Glamour Boys will face Dube Birds in what promises to be a thrilling encounter at 12:00. The final will be at 17:15.



Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung who was accompanied by the Marketing and Communications Team including new appointed Communications Manager, Vina Maphosa expressed her delight in participating in the preseason tournament.

“We are very excited to be participating in the Gauteng Sports Challenge in 2012. We are also happy to be supporting Gauteng in sports. The tournament gives us an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season.



“We are also happy to be meeting Moroka Swallows, one of the in-form teams last season. Games between the two sides have always been thrilling affairs and this upcoming one is not going to be any different.



“The tournament in Gauteng also takes place after our Executive Chairman; (Kaizer Motaung) was honoured for the Lifetime Achievement Award. We are really looking forward taking on some of Gauteng’s best and probably go and win it.



Jessica jokingly added that she is still going to make up her mind after MEC Sports; Lebogang Maile challenged her to participate in the Gauteng Marathon to take place on Sunday, 02 September 2012.



“I will have to think about it after doing the Run Jozi Race, it would be fun” she said jokingly.



MEC for Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile is equally excited to be part of the initiative.

“We are excited to be part of this initiative to celebrate sporting excellence in our province. We are hoping to grow the Challenge by introducing more sporting codes in the future.



Tickets will go on sale at R50. 00 for adults and R20.00 for children under 12 years, from Monday, 09 July at Computicket nationwide.
