ABSA Premiership

Kick Off 20:15
In the first ever meeting between The Amakhosi and PSL new comers Vasco Da Gama Chiefs came unstuck as they were defeated 3 – 2 by the Cape Town outfit in an Absa Premiership match played at the FNB Stadium o Saturday evening.
Vasco took the lead nine minutes into the game with a well taken goal by Jonathan Armogam, Abia Nale levelled the scores for Chiefs in the 31st minute. It took another piece of good individual skill from veteran attacker Sibusiso Zuma to put Vasco 2-1 I front on 56 minutes.
Jonathan Fransman extended Vasco’s lead seven minutes from normal time, Knowledge Musona headed a second for Chiefs in the 86th minute but it was not enough to prevent Chiefs from going down to their second loss of the season, ironically to another team from Cape Town.
Vasco had the best possible start to the game as they took the lead in the ninth minute, Jonathan Amoragam picking up the ball on the right flank before gliding past the Chiefs rear guard before hitting the ball from around 16 yards from goal across goal to beat Chiefs keeper Arthur Bartman at his far post.
Chiefs went in search of an immediate equalizer but Vasco dug deep and prevented them from getting close to goal with defender Ditheko Moto getting stuck into the Amakhosi strikers with Sthembiso Ngcobo on the end of a heavy challenge from the Vasco defender in the 16th minute.
Ngcobo chanced his luck at goal with a shot from the edge of the Vasco 18 yard area after a loose ball had fallen into his path, it took a tip over from Vasco keeper Postnet Omony to prevent Chiefs from going a goal up.
It took a fantastic quick pass from Musona to set Abia Nale through on goal and with just Omony in his way Nale gently stroked the ball past Omony to draw Chiefs level, on the stroke of half time George Lebese blasted the ball from distance into the Vasco side netting.
Chiefs had chances early in the second half after they did not make the most of them and Vasco punished them y taking the lead Zuma used his years of experience to overpower Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs as they battled for a ball on the left.
After winning the ball Zuma rounded Isaacs and knocked the ball past Bartman in the 56th minute to put Vasco 2-1 in front, from that point Chiefs were chasing the game and again created chances which they failed to convert. Substitute Siybulela Songwiqi managed to get to the end of Musona’s 63rd minute cross from the right but just a few yards from goal he shot wide.
Musona forced Omony into making two saves in the 63rd and 69th minute, while Chiefs attacked they were left vulnerable at the back and Vasco scored a third goal in the 83rd minute when Fransman broke free to get onto the end of a long ball and slammed it past Bartman to end the game as a contest.
Musona scored a second for Chiefs for minutes from time with a well timed header as he knocked hom Songwiqi’s free kick to score his 6th league goal of the season and joined Mpho Maleka from Mpumalanga Black Aces at the top of the scorers chart.
All in all Chiefs will not be happy with the fact that they dropped valuable points in the league race, Vladimir Vermezovic will be hoping for a better result when his team returns to the FNB Stadium in a week’s time to face Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knock Out Cup Final.
