Since 1985 Kaizer Chiefs have met Wits University on 61 occasions in league and cup games and the Glamour Boys can go into Sunday’s Absa Cup last 16 round fixture with confidence given their impressive overall record against The Students.

Amakhosi have scored an incredible 84 goals in their 27 victories against the university club while conceding just 49 goals in 14 defeats.

"Preparations are well underway for our Absa Cup match against Wits and the players are readjusting to their normal conditions. We expect a very difficult encounter against Wits. It has always been like that in the past and we do not expect anything less. We are preparing ourselves for a very tough encounter.

"The perception that we do not take the Absa Cup seriously due to our business relationship with Standard Bank is totally wrong. The Absa Cup is like any other PSL competition that we are engaged in and it’s treated as such. We go into all competitions with the aim of winning and the question of sponsorship does not have any impact on our participation," says club boss Kaizer Motaung.
