Former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Lifa Gqosha believes that the Club will cope without the services of Morgan Gould who is on long term injury list and Siboniso Gaxa who has recently been sidelined following an ankle injury.
Lifa Gqosha joined Kaizer Chiefs from Bush Bucks back in 1995 and stayed at Amakhosi until 2001. Lifa attended Kaizer Chiefs and Vodacom Roadshow in KwaNyamazane ahead of the Absa Premiership encounter against Bidvest Wits.
“It was good to meet everyone from the Club; Jessica (Motaung), Chief (Cecil Motaung) and all other staffers from Naturena that were there. I have good memories of my time at Naturena and it was good to meet my former colleagues who acknowledged the contribution that one made while there. It was also good to see the Club keeping up with its culture of taking the office to the people,” said Gqosha speaking to kaizerchiefs.com.
Gqosha took time to pay a glowing tribute to the Class of 2012; “I have been impressed with the commitment that has been shown by the players. They are all fighting for the badge and I felt this was lacking at times last season. No one now is guaranteed a place in the team and players seem to be chosen on merit. There is quality all round from goalkeeping department to the strikers.
“I am bit concerned though that the team seems to lose concentration towards the end of the game like it happened against Mamelodi Sundowns, Black Leopards and on Sunday against Bidvest Wits. The defence in particular seem to lose shape but then again the reason for this is that Chiefs seem to attack on a high tempo in the first 45 minutes. Overall though the side has been impressive and I have no doubt that the current team will indeed bring back the glory days at Naturena.
Currently an assistant coach at Mpumalanga Black Aces Gqosha said the absence of the likes of Morgan Gould, Siboniso Gaxa will not have any impact on the Club’s progress this season; “It is a setback to lose players of Gould and Gaxa’s calibre but Chiefs has a depth enough to fill the gaps. I am happy for instance for someone like Tefu Mashamaite who has come in and has done very well for the team.
“I was fortunate to coach Tefu at Bidvest Wits and I have no doubt that he has a lot to offer for the team. I remember at some stage they wanted to release him but I said to them; “he will grow”. He is now showing signs of maturity. Mathoho (Eric) after having a shaky start seems to have regained his confidence. I think it will not be a problem for the Club to fill the right back position. Chiefs will even be stronger when Tsepo Masilela is fit and ready to play,” added Gqosha.
