The game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes and went straight to penalties.
Leopards missed their third penalty, which was brilliantly saved by Chiefs
keeper Brian Baloyi, but striker Kenny Niemach was unable to win the game
for the Soweto giants with their fifth kick, his effort saved by the
leopards goalkeeper.
The shoot-out went into sudden death before Baloyi finally proved the hero
as he saved the spot kick which won Muhsin Ertugral's side the trophy this
year.
Earlier in the match, Chiefs had the better of the possession in the first
half and looked the most likely to score. Disaster struck, however, when
Bafana Bafana defender Cyril Nzama scored the most embarrassing of own
goals.
After the Leopards striker had lifted the ball high over the goalkeeper at
the edge of the area, Nzama, with an open goal in front of him and nobody
around to challenge him, managed to direct his clearing header into his own
net rather than over the bar, or wide of the goal.
No doubt Chiefs coach Ertugral would have had a stern words for his side at
halftime and they immediately came out looking a better unit.
They did not have to wait long for the equalizer, as just two minutes after
the break, Jossias Macamo rose highest in the Leopards penalty area to power
a cross home with the header and send the majority of the FNB Stadium crowd
into raptures.
Earlier in the day, Leopards beat Moroka Swallows 2-1 in the first
semifinal, with Chiefs running out 1-0 winners over arch-rivals Orlando
Pirates in the second semi.
