Sthembiso Ngcobo’s spot kick handed Kaizer Chiefs victory against Bidvest Wits in the Gauteng Sports Challenge played at Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.

The two sides failed to find the back of the net during the allocated 90 minutes and the game had to be decided on penalties with the Glamour Boys winning 8-7.

Head Coach, Stuart Baxter rang changes for the final with Arthur Bartman getting a chance to skipper the side in the place of regular skipper, Itumeleng Khune.

Tefo Mashamaite replaced Morgan Gould in the heart of defence while Lehlohonolo Majoro and George Lebese who both impressed as a substitute against Swallows got to start as well as Willard Katsande and Mandla Masango who both did not play any part in the semifinals.

The Glamour Boys continued to knock the ball around nicely with Reneilwe Letsholonyane orchestrating matters in the middle of the park.

It took 30 minutes for the first opportunity to be created in the game when Bernard Parker did well to connect with Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s pass but his header went just wide.

Stuart Baxter ranged changes in the 32nd minute bringing on Kaizer Motaung JNR for Lehlohonolo Majoro, Lucky Baloyi for Reneilwe Letsholonyane and in the 36th minute Sthembiso Ngcobo and Lincoln Zvasiya came in for Bernard Parker and Eric Mathoho respectively.

Stanton Fredericks found a space to shoot inside the 18-area-box but his shot was easily saved by Arthur Bartman, goalless at halftime.

It was Stanton Fredericks who also tried to chip Arthur Bartman who was off his line but the veteran goalkeeper reacted well to catch the ball.

The Glamour Boys continued to probe and striker, Sthembiso Ngcobo was unlucky to watch his deflected left foot strike going just over the bar in the 63rd minute.

Both sides failed to find the back of the net forcing the game to go on penalties.

All the penalty takers from both teams took their penalties well but it was Chiefs who won at the end after former Chiefs defender, Derrick Spencer ballooned his penalty allowing Sthembiso Ngcobo to score the all-important penalty that gave Chiefs their first trophy in 2012.

Despite few players getting knocks in both games, Coach Stuart Baxter would be pleased on how his players performed during the completion ahead of the Carling Black Label next Saturday.
