The Premier League race ended on Wednesday night and the town will be painted black and white as Pirates celebrate their first league championship in seven years.
The Buccaneers returned from the break highly motivated full of fresh ideas and demolished Ajax Cape Town 3-0 to lift their first Castle Premiership title in seven year.
Kaizer Chiefs PRO Putco Mafani said on Thursday that Pirates had a great season, and that they were worthy winners of the PSL title. Mafani also said he was happy that Vodacom, Chiefs’ primary sponsor had finally been rewarded with a league title. Vodacom also sponsors Pirates.
Mafani called on Chiefs supporters to keep their chins up. "There is still the Caf Cup up for grabs and we will be doing everything in our power to win that for our fans. On top of that we would still like to seal second place on the league table – a one-two for our sponsors Vodacom would be just reward."
Mafani urged supporters to look forward to the replay match against Pirates, which will not be the league decider that many Chiefs fans had hoped for. "Every game between Chiefs and Pirates is a big match and we will be taking this match seriously as ever."
Our next match is a Mandela Cup second round second leg clash against Sunshine FC or Seychelles on Sunday. The match kicks off at 18:00 and will be live on SuperSport International and CSN on M-Net.
The next Wednesday the Glamour Boys travel to Durban for a clash with Manning Rangers before they square up with Pirates either on June 2 or June 10. Watch the space for details on the replay.
Chiefs and Pirates will not rest while other team are on off-season as they will be involved in the Vodacom Challenge. Dates and venues are yet to be finalised.
