Kaizer Chiefs U-17 have impressed in the Soweto Football Association and are favourites to win the league after sending their counterparts at Bloemfontein Celtic packing last weekend with a score line of 7-0.

The young Chiefs are currently leading the log standings with 50 points after 18 games with Senaone Gunners occupying a second place three points adrift of the log leaders with 47 points.

Development Coach, Ryder Mofokeng sang the praises of Arthur Zwane’s charges; “The team has been doing very well and the boys have matured since participating in the Bayhill Tournament in Cape Town earlier this year. The team has also participated in a couple of tournaments including Future Champions and Engen Knockout Cup where they lost narrowly to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“On Saturday against Bloemfontein Celtic they were on fire scoring seven without reply from the opponents.

“The likes of midfielders Mpho Khumalo (16) from Pimville, Thato Khiba (16) from White City and Lenasia born striker, Waaseem Jaden (16) are among the players who have done well in the past couple of months.

“Of course the focus for us at the Development is never about the winning or the score but rather to develop these players but it is also important to instill an element of a winning mentality,” continued Mofokeng.

Meanwhile Ntsie Maphike’s U19 team is busy playing friendly matches in preparation for the Castle League to commence in mid-September; “They are playing against Robertsham Callies later on today sharpening up for the start of the league campaign,” added Mofokeng.
