The initiative which will have the South African soccer giants players donning 46664 on their jersey sleeves, is a revival of the Vodacom 46664 Starter Pack, launched in December last year.
The 46664 initiative, established by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to alleviate the scourge of HIV/AIDS, continues to bring about daily miracles in the lives of people affected.
Each time a customer recharges, Vodacom contributes a portion of the money to the 46664 Fund to support the fight against HIV/AIDS- at no cost to the customer. The initiative has repositioned the 46664 campaign from merely raising awareness of the HIV/ AIDS pandemic to inspiring ordinary South Africans to take personal responsibility in the fight against AIDS.
Since the launch, almost two million starter packs have been sold.
“The sales of the 46664 starter packs, are a demonstration of the South African spirit of ubuntu unfolding, of a will to do something concrete and practical to contain the scourge of HIV/AIDS. By showing compassion through purchasing of a 46664 starter pack, every member of the public can help enhance the quality of life of underprivileged people”, said Vodacom’s Chief Communications Officer, Dot Field.
Vodacom, a founder member of the Nelson Mandela Foundation 46664 HIV/AIDS campaign, has committed more than R5 million to the NMF.
The company will once again, join South Africa in celebrating Nelson Mandela’s 88th birthday. From July 12- 18 2006, Vodacom has made an SMS line 32 151 available for people to sms their messages to Madiba, at a cost of R3.00 per sms.
