Kaizer Chiefs legend Shane ‘Maketane’ McGregor will run onto the Moses Mabhida Stadium pitch, on Saturday, 16 November for old time sake. Kickoff for the game is at 14:00. The lethal marksman, in his hey days of wearing the gold and black Amakhosi jersey, ‘Maketane’, shared his fond memories with kaizerchiefs.com;

“Meeting with the guys we played with in the past brings good memories. We played together, we won trophies together and shared most of the time back in the days.This is reminiscent of the good old days, we will definitely have good fun and enjoy ourselves on Saturday. Playing against the Liverpool Legends is not going to be easy but we will give a good account of ourselves.”

On playing against the Liverpool team that he has supportd the whole of his life;

“I have been a big Liverpool supporter all my life. I am looking forward to playing against my favourite team. On the field there will be no support. That is how it is football, you get onto the pitch to compete and win games. Looking at the team winning here tonight, you can see that we are preparing for a win.” (Kaizer Chiefs Legends beat Nike Legends 3-2 on Tuesday night, 12 November 2013. Doctor Khumalo, Stanton Fredericks and Arthur Zwane scored for the Chiefs legends while Zane Moosa and Shaun Bartlet replied for the Nike Team.)

On the memorable game in his time;

“I have so many games that count as the best I ever played. There was a game somewhere in 1988/89 season, when I scored a beautiful goal against Moroka Swallows. We were coached by Jeff Burttler then. He got the boys playing and we enjoyed playing under him. Every goal I scored is good as long as it got into the back of the net.”

On his combined goals scored with his partnership with Fani Madida in 1991 - Madida with a record of 34 strikes and McGregor with 20;

“That was brilliant, you know in two seasons some teams can’t score 54 goals. That kind of a partnership happens once in a life time. It will never happen again. We both worked well to achieve that.”

About Saturday, Liverpool Legends tour to SA;

“The supporters will be treated to a fun filled game. This is going to be enjoyment to the spectators. I hope this will be the start and hopefully we can get more games going to help keep the supporters interested in soccer. The supporters will have an opportunity to watch the ‘old men’ and how football used to be played.”

Tickets for the game are on sale at Computicket nationwide at a cost of R75.
