Knowledge Musona believes in contributing to the team before gunning for individual glory, 'The Smiling Assassin' as he is affectionately known in the soccer circles told kaizerchiefs.com, that scoring goals for his team is important but more importantly for him is to see the Amakhosi collecting 3 points from every game the team plays.
The players recently returned from the break,
"The break was short but it was good. We rested a little bit and bounced back to work with some more energy. During the first half of the season we played many games in the league and reached the semifinals of the two cup competitions played so far. I think it was a good break for the guys," said Musona.
Chiefs is facing a back to back schedule in the next few months,
"The guys are ready. We have been training very well during the past few weeks since we returned from the break. The guys are geared up and looking forward to the upcoming games. There will be no problem with the upcoming tight schedule if we continue to train and rest properly," commented Musona.
Returning to action with a win against Mamelodi Sundowns last week and facing Moroka Swallows on Friday night,
"We played well against Sundowns. The game was tough but in the end we collected the maximum points. The win in the first game of the new year was a good sign and we are looking forward to collecting more maximum points going forward this season. Playing Swallows is also going to be very tough. It is an away game and they are also looking for the three points. We will fight and try to play the best football. We will focus on our own game plan as you know, to us it's all about taking each game as it comes," continued Musona.
Knowledge expressed a cautious approach to their game against the Dube Birds,
"Swallows have some of the best players in the league, players such as Siyabonga Nomvethe and Lerato Shabangu are very good. They play their own style of football but we will go there to play our own game as well. We need the three points as much as they do," said Musona.
The return to Chiefs on a loan spell from the German Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim has seen Musona netting 6 goals in all competitions so far,
"Even if goals don't come I get joy from creating chances for my teammates to score. I rather be a team player than an individual player. For me it is not about the goals I score but about the team collecting the maximum points. If I don't score and for as long as the other players score, then that becomes a team effort. It's all about a collective approach to the game," said Musona.
"I am aware the supporters are always looking for something special to come from my play. For now I am playing with all my heart and trying my best. The goals will soon come. There are 20 plus odd games remaining in this season. As you might have noticed I have created numerous goal scoring opportunities but the goalkeepers have been equal to the task. I am working hard to find the right target. It is just a matter of time and luck, the goals will come, who knows, probably they will start coming against Swallows," said Musona with supreme confidence and a smile.
