Head Coach, Stuart Baxter remained positive following the 1-0 defeat by Orlando Pirates in the first leg of MTN8 semifinals on Saturday, 24 August 2013, at the FNB Stadium.
The Glamour Boys who had not lost a game at FNB for over a year finally succumbed to their archrivals Orlando Pirates but they believe that they still have a chance when the two sides meet in the second leg taking place on the 24th of September 2013, Heritage Day, at the Orlando Stadium.
“The first 30 minutes were a total disaster for us,” admitted Baxter speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Monday morning.
“We allowed Orlando Pirates to settle and I never believe we could become so passive in a game of this magnitude. Our reaction was to panic. Pirates took full advantage of that by scoring an early goal.
I felt that we came back strongly in the second half but we did not improve our decision making in the last attacking third. We have to pick ourselves up get back on our horses and be ready to fight in the second leg. Good teams respond to a defeat,” said Baxter.
“It is a bitter pill to swallow losing against archrivals. The players in particular are very disappointed. This is football though and we have to focus on our next challenge.
Knowledge Musona started the game from the bench with Lehlohonolo Majoro getting a nod, Baxter explained his decision; “We started with Major (Lehlohonolo Majoro) because he understands how we play. My rational was Knowledge (Musona) would be better for us as a team coming off the bench. He is settling in well and will do well for the team this season."
