It was a night of mixed emotions for the towering defender, Eric Mathoho when he scored his first goal for the Club but had to be replaced due to injury in the dying stages of the game as Kaizer Chiefs drew 1-all against Maritzburg United at the Peter Mokaba stadium.
Maritzburg United had scored first and with the supporters cheering their team, Chiefs came back to level matters with a flying header from Eric Mathoho. It was ‘Tower’s first goal in the gold and black and it was a special goal as he scored the goal with his family watching the proceedings.
‘Tower’ was at training on Wednesday but was only involved in light training under the watchful eye of the Medical Team.
“I am hopeful that I am going to come back soon. Injuries are part of the game and as a professional I have to soldier on. I watched our game against Golden Arrows on TV and it was so inspiring to watch my teammates fighting like they did."
“I am feeling much better now,” he said speaking about his injured adductor muscle. “The medical team is monitoring it and I will know later this week if I will make the trip to Bloemfontein."
Mathoho reflected with a smile on the events of the evening of 3rd April; “I was very excited having scored my first goal in the gold and black and now I had to deal with the injury. We were also not happy to have drawn at home but in football these things happen and you have to be a man enough to face challenges."
Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com ‘Tower’ went on to wish his teammate Morgan Gould a speedy recovery after injuring his knee against Golden Arrows; “Morgan is a warrior and we all know how important he is for both the Club and country. I have no doubt that he will bounce back again. I would like to wish him a speedy recovery on his latest setback."
