I feel whole again - McCarthy

On the back of scoring the goal which gave Chiefs the lead against Dynamos at the weekend and having put in a workman like performance in defence two days before when Chiefs triumphed against title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Defender Fabian McCarthy has a new lease on life after being unceremoniously dumped by coach Ernst Middendorp for Chiefs game against Pirates in December and the next two games against Golden Arrows and Black Leopards.

Fabian McCarthy is like a new player having used the friendly games Chiefs played during the PSL recess due to the African Nations Cup to get himself back into the starting eleven. Fabian explains the ecstasy and the agony as to how he fought his way back into favour and reclaimed his spot in the centre of defence.

KC.COM: You recently had two outstanding games, how does it feel to be back playing at your best with the supporters on your side?

FM: It is always hard to be dropped by the coach, sometimes it is needed for me getting left out of a couple games in December helped me collect my thoughts and I began to get down to business as soon as we returned to training. I always enjoy playing especially in the tougher games and it recently showed against Sundowns, which was a game I really enjoyed.

KC.COM: Did you know that prior to the Dynamos game the last time you scored this season also helped Chiefs climb to the top of the table. That goal was in a 3-1 victory over Golden Arrows early in September?

FM: I cannot lie to you and say I do remember that, I am oblivious to these kinds of statistics it is nice to know though that Kaizer Chiefs.com has such records about the players that we are not aware of. It is always nice to contribute to the success of the team and if I can help the team achieve bigger and bolder heights then I think that is really just wonderful

KC.COM. Are you aware that the total number of goals you have scored for Chiefs, which is six, is the same as your jersey number. You have scored half of these goals this season alone.

FM: Once again I think Kaizerchiefs.com has out done itself I am really glad to be made aware of that statistic. I don’t count the amount of goals I scored I need to see them hit the back of the net, the fact that I scored half of them this season really only means that I am putting more effort into my game this year. I want to continue playing the way I have been over the past two games and make sure we can get our third title if it means that I score more goals I will be happy.

KC.COM: Beating Sundowns on Wednesday must have been particularly nice taking into account that once upon a time you played for them?

FM: Playing against your old team is always special and beating them is even more special the feeling is just great. I get a lot of satisfaction out of it and taking into account the importance of the game and that they are a good team and that they were the log leaders the pleasure in beating them is sweeter.

KC.COM: Finally are you confident of a victory against them a second time around?

FM: I do think so, but we need to be level headed about this only after the game should we start really talking about retaining the title. At the moment because we already beat them once we feel confident that we can do it again, I am not boasting or blowing our trumpet we still prefer to regard ourselves as underdogs.
