Kaizer Chiefs defensive depth was shattered late August following the injury to one of Club’s top 2012/13 preseason signings, Morgan Gould.
Morgan who had helped the Club keep a clean sheet as Chiefs hammered AmaZulu 6-0 in the opening day of the Absa Premiership was going through his paces in preparation for a crucial league clash against rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns when his tendon raptured ruling him out for a minimum of four months.
Coach Stuart Baxter described Morgan Gould as a warrior; “I am not worried about Morgan; I am worried about what you (The Team) are going to do. He is a warrior and he will bounce back from his injury,” said the visibly disappointed Briton.
“I have been good,” he told kaizerchiefs.com with a smile on Tuesday afternoon. “I have had to accept the situation. I have been through injuries before and I know what it takes to bounce back.
“I am fully focused on recovering now nothing more. People have been talking to me about other things; I am focused on recovery.
“I asked myself lot of questions when I got injured, the timing of my injury and so on. I had started a career in a new environment and this happened. I again remembered that sometimes God will set you back five steps and give you a kilometre of forward steps. It happened for a reason, I told myself.
Gould who was signed from SuperSport United missed the World Cup 2010 due to injury an experience he does not want to talk about;
“I look at my life like a candle,” he said.
“The candle is used often in church to lighten up the place and its strength is amazing. If it switches off it becomes off but once you ignite it, it brightens the places and this is the basis at which I look at my life.
The hard tackling defender revealed that his family has been a source of inspiration; “My family has been supportive. They have been with me through thick and thin. I can say the same about my friends, the Club and the supporters. I am grateful for the support I have received from everyone.
The Medical Team has commended Morgan Gould for his ‘attitude’ to the rehabilitation process; “I am at a stage where my injury can re-rapture so I have to be careful and the Medical Team that I have been working with understands this. It is such a fragile stage and I also need to be cautious.
The Bafana Bafana defender was on the stands as Chiefs were knocked out by Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Knockout; “It has been painful watching my teammates giving their all at times without getting the positive rewards. The guys have been giving their all and wearing the badge with pride.
“In football sometimes things do not go your way but we remain united as a team towards one goal to Reclaim the Glory this season,” added Gould.
