Fullback Siboniso Gaxa told the media that him and his teammates knew that it was not going to be easy this season, after Chiefs won the double last season. Pa was responding to media questions at the TKO Quarter Final Press Conference. The conference was held at the PSL HQ on Thursday afternoon. Kaizer Chiefs travel to Qwaqwa, Phuthaditjhaba, to tackle Free State Stars, in the TKO Last 8, at the Charles Mopeli Stadium. Kickoff on Sunday, 20 October 2013, is at 15:00.
Chiefs have not started the 2013 – 14 PSL season like a house on fire:
“Everyone wants to beat the Champions. It has been a roller coaster for us at the start of this season but we have started picking up. We are not far from the log leaders. We are fifth in the log and only a goal difference separates us from the leaders. Coming to this season, we knew it was not going to be easy. It has not been smooth but we will continue to work hard.”
Playing Free State Stars in their own backyard is not easy:
“At Chiefs it is not about the opponents. We respect Stars (FS Stars) but we are focused on Chiefs. We know that this is a massive game not for us only but for them (FS Stars) as well. We are looking forward to the challenge and to play good football. They are a good side and they also play good football. On Sunday we will do what we normally do best and fight for the Club.”
The conditions have proven difficult for visiting teams at Charles Mopeli Stadium:
“Irrespective of the conditions, we will focus on ourselves. You can’t change the weather and the pitch conditions but one thing you can change is applying ourselves on the day, play good football and beat our opponents.”
Pa was one of the players who were rested during the Fifa week when Chiefs played in Macufe Cup friendly game:
“The Macufe Cup gave the youngsters a chance to play. The rest was needed to give the other players to play. Hopefully after the weekend’s rest we will be fresh to do the job on Sunday.”
Chiefs been nominated in the category of the Team of the Year in the SA Sports Awards:
“It is a good gesture for the Team to be nominated against the National Teams (SA Rugby and The Proteas). It shows that we did a good job last season. It is exciting to be part of this moment in time. I am grateful to be part of this Club.”
