Johannes ‘Ryder’ Mofokeng is the longest serving captain for the Club having held the armband for a decade from 1975-1985.
“Jimmy resembles one of our great captains’, Ryder Mofokeng. They are both humble; play in the same position the only difference is that Jimmy is taller. But just like Ryder did during the yesteryear, Jimmy will make a good captain” he said. .
“I was in Cape Town before we played Manchester United weeks ago when I received a call from Jimmy requesting a meeting with me. This was following his appointment as a captain of the team. I was humbled by his request. It is seldom to find a player these days calling you and asking the kind of questions Jimmy was asking me. He wanted to know about how to handle the responsibility of captaining Chiefs and so on. He is down to earth young man who understands the culture of the Club as if he came through our development structures” said Khumalo..
Doctor revealed that his relationship with Jimmy comes a long way, “He came years ago to trail with the team. He used to call me even before he joined the Club just keeping in touch or asking for advice about his game. I remember talking to him when he joined us. I told him to keep his head high even when the chips are down. Jimmy has managed to lift himself even when he was going through a rough patch in the team. I have no doubt that he will make a great captain here” .
Doctor himself has had an honour of captaining the Club, “The captain’s armband was just too heavy for me. It was only when I was the old guy in the team that I accepted it. Captaining Kaizer Chiefs comes with a huge responsibility and it was an honour for me to lead this great Club” he concluded. .
