Khune: Chippa is no walk in the park

Captain Itumeleng Khune said on Thursday that he and his teammates are ready for Chippa United this coming Saturday, 29 September 2012 at Soccer City but warned that the game will not be a “walk in the park”.

Khune was once again outstanding as last line of defence as Chiefs pushed Students aside at Mbombela Stadium on Monday.

“We know the importance of this game. We are unbeaten in five games and we want to continue with the form we have shown early this season. We are playing at home so we need to win the game without a doubt,” said Khune.

“Chippa United is new in the PSL but we need to give them the respect they deserve like all other teams in the league. They will want to come to Soccer City and cause an upset. It will not be a walk in the park but we are ready for this game.

Khune paid tribute to Head Coach, Stuart Baxter for turning things around; “The Coach has been superb since his first day with us. He brought back the confidence in the team. He told us what he expects from us and we have been doing exactly that on the field.

“We have a long way to go because we have only played five games and there are 25 more games to go. We cannot now rest on our laurels and think that we have achieved our objectives. League is a marathon and the Coach demands consistency and we demand the same from ourselves.

Khune also had a message to the Club’s faithful; “They remain a cornerstone to what the Club has achieved in the 42 years of existence.

I would like to humbly request that the fans be patient with the players. Booing players can only give advantage to the opposition and at the same time demoralise us. The same goes with whistling and signalling to force the coach to effect substitutions, all these unsporting acts are not encouraging to the players. We are giving our all on the field. We really appreciate their support and we would like to invite them to Soccer City again on Saturday,” concluded Khune.

Kickoff for the Absa Premiership fixture on Saturday, 29 September, is at 20:15.
