Khune, a home brewed player having joined the Club development structures at the age of 12 made his debut back in 2007 and have since grown to be one of the highly rated young goalkeepers in the continent.
“It is a great honour for me to captain the team thus leading a special group of players,” said Khune who on Tuesday afternoon who had an appointment with the Club doctors on the injury that has kept him out since the AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone.
“I would like to thank the Club for showing confidence in me by handing me such a huge responsibility. The Coach called the whole team including the Technical and Football Manager, Bobby Motaung to make the announcement on Tuesday. I cannot put the feeling into words of how it felt…I am supremely honoured.
‘Spider Kid’ as Khune is known in football circles also paid a glowing tribute to outgoing captain, Jimmy Tau.
“Jimmy has been a great captain for the Club. I continue to have respect for him for what the team has achieved during his tenure. I will be relying not only on him but all the players as we take the team to another level.
“The focus for me now is to return back to the team following the injury. I would have loved to be there fighting it out with the guys at Peter Mokaba Stadium this coming weekend. Hopefully I can be back before the end of the month,” added Khune speaking to kaizerchiefs.com.
