The Bafana Bafana striker has pointed out to kaizerchiefs.com that he could not have scored what can only be described as a spectacular free kick with-out the assistance of Chiefs keeper Itumeleng Khune, “while do some training ground drills during the week on free kicks Itumeleng was guiding me and talking me through how I should be executing them.
When I stepped up to take the kick it came in my mind what Khune had told me to do, and I focused on getting it right and the goal was straight from the training ground. Credit to Khune, the coach and the other guys for working with me through the week on set pieces.”
While many might find it a surprise that a goalkeeper would be able to coach a striker in a dead ball situation Parker says they should not be, “I know Itumeleng from our time together at the national team and he has always been helping us in these situations. He is good at taking free kicks, he hits the ball extremely well.”
The goal against Pirates was also Parker’s first of the new campaign in league action having opened his Absa Premiership account he is now looking forward to adding to it, “we were under pressure going into the Pirates game. It was a must win for us, scoring the goal is a relief and it will most definitely boost my confidence, I do believe that more goals can and will follow all I need to do is keep on practicing hard.”
With the derby over and Chiefs at the summit of the league Parker is not going to slow down as he believes every game will be more challenging from this point on wards, “every game has been tough and each one here forward starting with the Celtic encounter will be a challenge for us.
In our team everyone wants to perform well which is good for us, we know that we cannot relax and that we need to win every game. You do not win games just with quality you do so with by showing character as well and we are well aware of that.”
