The telling moment of the game came on the stroke of half time as Itumeleng Khune made a difficult save diving to his left to push away a close range toe poke from Ahmed El Muhammadi, to deny the Sunderland defender with a magnificent save as kept South Africa in the game.
Khune was at it again in the second half saving early on from Hosni Abd Rabou while, Tshabalala had a free kick saved on 53 minutes as he attempted to beat El Hadry at his near post from the dead ball.
Tshabalala was substituted and he was replaced in the final minute of the game by former Chiefs defender Bevan Fransman, the captaincy duties were handed over to Itumeleng Khune.
Somehow the Tunisian referee managed to add seven minutes to the game, four minutes into referees optional time Reneilwe Letsholonyane was able to steal the ball off an Egyptian player and fed it through to substitute Tlou Segolela who stole a march on goal.
With just El Hadry to beat like Mphela earlier in the game Segolela could not guide the ball past the Egyptian keeper as the ball hit him in the face and danger was averted.
