KwaMashu will be a hype of activity from Wednesday, 26 June 2013 when 32 teams compete in the U-19 team annual Gaxa Cup.
The tournament that started in 2009 is an initiative of Club’s and Bafana Bafana defender, Siboniso ‘PSG’ Gaxa.
Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Tuesday, Pa revealed that it was all systems go; “Everything is ready and all the teams seem to be fired up and there is a lot of excitement ahead of the tournament.
“We started the tournament in 2009 as an open tournament but now it is strictly an U19 tournament. The objective is to offer the youngsters an opportunity to showcase their skills. It is school holidays so the youngsters also need to be kept busy to avoid them going astray.
“It is also good for them to see someone from their community organising such an initiative so that when they are CEO’s tomorrow they don’t forget about their roots and giving back to the community that supported them.
“There will be scouts there during the tournament hopefully couple of players can get an opportunity to play at the highest level. I feel fortunate I was able to fulfill my dream playing for Bafana Bafana then in Europe and now back at playing for Kaizer Chiefs. The youngsters can also achieve this, it is not impossible.
“I am forever grateful for the support I received from my community growing up and now playing football at the highest level. I would like to thank Sports and Recreation in Durban, SAB, Nike, World Transplant Games 2013, DSTV Durban, KwaMashu Spa, and ABI for coming on board to make this initiative a success,” added Pa Gaxa.
