Kaizer Chiefs easily beat Comoros’ side Volcan Club de Moroni 4-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Stade de Moroni on Sunday afternoon. The goals were scored by Bernard Parker, Sula Matovu and a brace from Erick Mathoho.
Parker opened the score in the tenth minute with a long range shot from outside the box. It was a beauty.
Amakhosi were clearly the better side, putting the Comorian side under continuous pressure.
Mathoho added another when he headed in a free kick taken by Parker, who had a fine game, after Camaldine Abraw was fouled outside the box.
The half-time score was 2-0.
Defender Mathoho found the back of the net again after a free-kick taken by Siphiwe Tshabalala created confusion in Volcan’s box. Mathoho tapped the ball in from close range.
Substitute Sula Matovu, who had come on for Tshabalala, also netted, finishing well from a pass supplied by Togolese striker Abraw.
It was a well-deserved win by the Amakhosi on the road in a hot and humid Moroni.
Chiefs’ home match, the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round will take place at the Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 27 February.
