McCarthy on target in DDC Derby success

Defender, Aden McCarthy scored from the penalty spot midway through the second half to secure a 1-0 win for Kaizer Chiefs reserves over Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates reserves, at the DDC Festival in Bloemfontein on Sunday, a result that sees Amakhosi maintain their position at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge league table.

They hold a one point lead over second-placed Stellenbosch, as well as a game in hand, and will be determined to continue their sparkling form when they tackle third-placed SuperSport United in their next encounter, on Saturday, 29 March at FNB stadium (kickoff at noon).

Meanwhile, in the SAFA Gauteng Development League, Kaizer Chiefs’ junior teams were involved in a double header over the long weekend.

On Friday, 21 March, they celebrated Human Rights Day by winning three of the four matches against Randburg AFC at the Randburg Sports Club.

The U14s won 4-1, the U15s prevailed 3-0 and the U17s came out on top by 3-1. The U19s narrowly lost 2-1 I the day’s final match.

On Sunday, 23 March, young Amakhosi completed a clean sweep of East Rand Athletic Club in front of their home fans at the Village.

The U14s thrashed their opponents 7-0, with the similarly impressive U15s winning 6-0. The U17s won their match 3-0 and the U19s crowned a successful series with a 5-1 drubbing to close out the day.

This Saturday, commencing at 9:00am, Chiefs take on Remember Elite Sports Academy (RESA) at the President Park stadium in Vereeniging. The day’s play will be livestreamed on the SuperSport Schools app.
